with the sound of funk, soul and rock music, MojoMama features
the vocals and lyrics of Jessica Rowand as lead singer. With a beat that
draws fans onto the dance floor, the band has played night clubs, bars
and music festivals throughout the front range region. Paul Rogalski backs
up the band’s sound with electric bass and composes music. Britt
Heaps comes in on Guitar and Mike Fogerty keeps the beat going on drums
to round out the group’s sound. With their hip shaking grooves,
MojoMama brings a mixture of standing favorites, enlivened with fresh
new sultry sounds to create an exciting listening and dancing experience
for audiences.
Jessica Rowand, originally a New Jersey native, whose song idols include Aretha Franklin, Diana Ross and other soul legends, has had a passion for singing since she took the stage the first time at eight years old. Early in her career she sang in the New York City area with an all female band, London Underground. She moved to Boulder in the early 90’s and performed with many local groups. In 2000, she contributed her smooth vocals to local recording artist “Soul Wave”, a side project of United Dope Front’s Ben Senterfit and she sang with a dance funk cover band, Funkiphino. Then Jessica and Paul Rogalski began writing their own original songs and MojoMama was born. The two combined Funk, Rock and Soul influences and began a search for their own unique sound. From Boston, Massachusetts, Paul Rogalski was graduated from the Berklee College of Music in the early 90’s. After graduation, he relocated to Boulder Colorado, where he found, “a very welcoming music scene.” Local singer Nina Storey asked Paul to join her musical effort and they released a live CD, “Nina Storey Band BOOTLEG,” and played everywhere from Boulder to the L.A. House of Blues. Paul then formed his own band, Coykindred, a funk rock band fronted by local, Lauren Monroe. Within six months they had composed and recorded a CD, which received great reviews on the local scene. Then came MojoMama. Britt Heaps, formerly from Wyoming, is a talented well-rounded musician, who can play everything from drums to guitar to bass. Prior to joing up with MojoMama, he had been playing with the jazz group, Onsombley, and doing improvisation gigs. He brings ripping solos and supportive funk rhythms to add color to the group’s sound. Mike Fogerty is a Colorado native, who has been part of the Colorado music scene for the past 22 years. He has been the timekeeper for various Front Range bands such as The Brokers, Twitch, Dave Davis and Blues Child. Having played different styles of music which ranged from Blues to Metal to Funk, he has now added his solid beat and rock steady groove to the MojoMama sound. The band’s recently
